National Conference 2008
2006 AGM

In April, we put on a Conference at St Ambrose College, Hale Barns. Its subject was “Catholic Migrants: Opportunities and Challenges”. The two keynote speakers were Patrick O'Donoghue, Bishop of Lancaster and Francis Davis from the Von Hugel Institute, Cambridge. Click on Conference for an account of this, kindly provided by Gerry Burke.

A recent meeting, on 4th February was given by Giles Hibbert,OP, who was our Chaplain, and Newman National Chaplain, for many years. It was entitled “Kyrie Eleison” and he has kindly given us a transcript of the talk; click on Giles Hibbert talk

The January meeting was a talk entitled “Multiculturalism: is it a discredited approach that leads ultimately to greater segregation?”  This was given by Philip Sumner, a priest of the Diocese of Salford.  He has kindly given us a transcript; Click on Philip Sumner talk

A recent meeting (November 2007) was on “Working for Justice and Peace”, a talk given by Joan Sharples, the Peace and Justice coordinator for the Diocese of Shrewsbury.  This got us thinking about how we in the developed world are exploiting the poor, and what we can do about it.  At times during the session we were encouraged to discuss subjects raised with our neighbour, which was a refreshing change to the normal format of talk followed by questions.
